Future Travel

Germany

Till now I have talked about the places I have gone and the things I have done. Now I want to talk about one of the places I really want to go and that is Germany. I have always wanted to travel to Europe and go through all the great country's but I really want to go to Germany. 

In high school I took two years of German and I loved it. I loved learning about the culture and it was something I knew I wanted to experience. Taking two years of German was not enough and I have pretty much lost what I have learned sadly. My goal is to find the time to learn it again and be able to hold a conversation. I think it would be really sweet to live there for a few years and really learn the culture first hand and become better at speaking German.

There are so many cool things to see in Germany. Traveling around the country would be amazing, going from city to city seeing everything. Seeing all the old castles and the old history of Germany would be freaking awesome. 

Most of my family came from Germany after WWI and I have been trying to learn more about it all my life. It would be great to learn the language and travel to this great country. If I could I would become a citizen but sadly that is not possible for me, it would be so sweet if I could. One day I will find the time and money to get there and I know it will be a great experience that I cant wait to have. 

Boston Week! Day 8

Home

The time finally came to say good bye to one of the best cities in the world. This week has been one of the best in my life and I enjoyed every bit of it. The people there were so nice and helpful to me and the people I was with. The sites were amazing and I don't think I could ever get enough. I would be perfectly fine with living there one day. Although weather made a few days less than perfect I still had a great time. I encourage everyone who reads this to try and make a trip to Boston some time in their life. There is so much to see and so much history to take in, always fun to go to a Red Soxs game. Thank you so much to the people who followed me on my journey and i hope this has encouraged you to take a trip that is truly worth the expense.

Boston Week! Day 7

Tour Time!

We got up early today and got on a shuttle downtown to get on a tour that took us through Harvard, MIT, Lexington, and Concord. I have been looking forward to this part of the week for a while and it was a lot of fun. We didn't get to stop at every little thing but we saw a lot and I definitely learned a lot. 

Harvard

Our first stop was at the main entrance of Harvard where we had time to looking around. I was able to walk around an amazing court yard surrounded by old buildings. I decided to take a walk over to the science building but as soon as I got to it there were police telling people to leave the area. I didn't get to see as much as I intended but the drive through Cambridge was very cool. Especially the little ally where everyone goes to graffiti.

Battle Road

Next stop on the tour was the city of Lexington. Driving through the town was pretty quick because it is a very small town. It was that typical main street with all the shops on it. We headed straight for the battle green where British soldiers came face to face with the minute men and a random shot was fired at the British which many believe is reason why our country was born. 

From Lexington we followed the battle road to Concord. The battle road was a trail the British used to march to Concord and they were attacked seven times by the minute men. The trail had many spots in which the British and the minute men fought and the different points the rebels used to give them the upper hand. We ended the Concord tour at the site of the shot heard around the world in which minute men killed two British soldiers and mortally wounded another. This was the birth of a country.

Downtown

After the tour we headed back into Quincy market place in downtown Boston to look around and get some food. I saw a lot of interesting street performers and I got some new shirts. We had dinner at the replica of the Cheers restaurant and to be honest the food was very average. It was still a very fun afternoon in downtown Boston. 

Fenway

After dinner we headed to Fenway for another Red Soxs game. I was able to get the Soxs shirt I wanted and then we headed up to our seats to wait for the game to start. The game was very fun but they ended up losing by three to Baltimore. Fenway is a truly great place to be and I had a great time. The only down side to going to the game was waiting to get on the T and having such a hard time squeezing in. 

Boston Week! Day 6

Hurricane Day

I would have loved to blog about my great day but because of severe weather due to hurricane Arthur we had to stay most of the day. It had been windy all day and has not stopped raining once today. At the moment the hurricane is right over Cape Cod so the weather is getting worse. 

This is going to be a short blog about my great dinner but tomorrow should be sunny and we have a lot planned during the day and another Red Soxs game at night. 

We managed to make it out long enough for a quick trip to Legal Seafood for dinner. After a long day of nothing it was nice to have a really good dinner. I chose to have a baked lobster. They cut the bottom of the steamed lobster open and fill it with a bread, shrimp, and scallop mix. It was so freaking good and it came with some great roasted potatoes and garlic spinach. Dinner was really nice and it was great to get out of the room for a little bit. It was a really boring day of watching the horrible weather but tomorrow will be packed full of fun to make up for it. 

Boston Week! Day 5

In The City

Today was a very strange day to say the least. With the threat of hurricane weather tomorrow the city of Boston decided to have the 4th of July celebration today. So we decided to head into the city this afternoon and explore before going down to the water for the concert and fireworks. 

Going through the city we saw a lot of the same things we already saw on the freedom trail. We spent most of the time down by the water and watch the massive boats cruise through the harbor. It was another really hot and humid day so most of our time was spent in the shade and just taking in the great sights. 

Late in the afternoon I finally got the lobster roll I had been looking for. It was very good and very fresh. While we ate we watched a street performer on a tall unicycle juggling and doing some stand up. All in all it was a very fun afternoon even though it was hot and very humid. Today was all about the night and the fireworks. 

4th on the 3rd

Walking down to the water front was very different. There were thousands of people lined up waiting to get in and we were surrounded by police and military. The security was crazy to get into the park but after all that waiting it was worth it. 

We got a great seat with a perfect view of the stage and laid down our blanket and waited for the show to start. Once the show started it just kept getting better. The Boston Pops played some great songs along with others and the Beach Boys even played a few songs. The music was great and the crowds of people were really into it. By the time the show started the whole area was full of thousands of people. I didn't think so many would show up.

At the end of the concert they had a great fireworks show on the river. I don't think I have ever seen such a great show. As soon as the fireworks ended the loud speakers informed everyone that the state police were ordering an evacuation due to a storm. 

The masses of people made there way away from the water front and into the city. As we walked through the park I started to see people running past and screaming. I could actually see the line of pouring ran coming right at us. By the time we made it to the subway we were completely soaked. Some people were even more wet then we were. That storm came out of no where and it was crazy. I have never seen it rain so much at a time like that. The ride back on the subway took forever because of all the people trying to get out of the city.

The storm sucked but the night was amazing. The fireworks were amazing and the concert was one of the best I have ever been to. I had a great day and now I'm tempted to come to Boston every 4th of July. 

Boston Week! Day 4

Basketball Hall of Fame

After a long drive to Springfield we were at the Basketball Hall of Fame. I have wanted to see this all my life and I'm so glad that I got the chance to see it. The outside is a giant sphere that which looks very cool from the outside. There's also a huge tower with a basketball on it so its hard to miss.

When you walk in the first thing you see is the inside of the dome. The center goes all the way up while the sides are split into three floors. Hanging from the celling was an old score board showing high lights from over the years in the NBA. The top floor had pictures of all the people that have been put into the hall of fame. Below the pictures was a time line from the beginning of the NBA to the most recent events that have greatly influenced the league. The rest of the hall of fame is full of a lot of old players uniforms and info about stars of the game, coaches, and big college teams before the days of the NBA. 

One of the cooler sights was an American flag made out of Nike shoes. It was interesting reading about the line of events through history that shaped the NBA and the rules that it has now. I was able to find some Portland Trail Blazer players throughout the hall of fame and it was interesting what was said about them.

Rhode Island

Later that afternoon we took a drive to Providence to have dinner and look around the city. We found a little pizza place and decided to stop there. Caserta Pizzeria had some great pizza. The crust was very good and cooked perfectly. The sauce was very good and the toppings were fresh. Dinner was very good and I would highly recommend this place to anyone traveling to the east coast.

Walking through the Italian district was very different from the North End in Boston. It was a single straight away with mostly restaurants and a few bakeries. At the end of the street was an old church that was really cool to look at but we sadly could not go in. After walking for a while we bought some dessert and headed back to Boston. 

It was a very hot and humid day but I had a lot of fun. Any basketball fan must make it to the hall of fame it is truly great. I am also loving this Italian food and I think tomorrow will end with another trip to the North End in Boston.

Boston Week! Day 3

Salem

Today was hot and humid as shit. I felt as if I were walking around in a giant fish bowl. We decided to take a drive north to see the coastal town of Salem. Salem is known as the place of the Salem witch trials where people accused of being witches were executed.

The town was very beautiful with all of the old buildings and the great views of the sea. We walked around the town looking at the different cemetery's and different sights to commemorate the witch trials. I didn't really think there was to much to see sadly and the only thing to see was a witch museum but it was ten bucks a person so we decided to see the town instead. 

There weren't very many sites as there was on the freedom trail but there was one spot that was really cool to see. The house of the seven gables is a mansion in Salem built in the late 1600's and over the century's has changed owners and has been remodeled. The house is now a museum that you can walk through.

 The house has all of the original rooms and walls and it is amazing. The mansion showed just what being rich meant back then. They even had a hidden staircase in the chimney that lead to a secrete third floor room. This was by far one of the coolest houses I have ever seen and the history behind The House of Seven Gables was truly amazing. Sadly we could not take pictures so I wont be able to post any pictures for the house.

Boston Week! Day 2

Freedom Trail

Another really nice day of sun and fun. We took the T to downtown Boston and walked the freedom trail for a few hours. The freedom trail is an amazing collection of historic sights in Boston. From the old North church to the sight of the Boston massacre. The sights were amazing and the history was very fascinating. We were also able to see the rest of downtown while on our walk on the freedom trail. 

For those that don't know the "T" is basically the name for Bostons subway. Ridding the T is always a fun experience but the system can get confusing. The Green line splits into 3 different directions and it is very easy to get on the wrong train. The different halls and stairs that lead to other stops and up to the street can also be very confusing because you have stairs going to other platforms, back to the same one, and up to the street. Even with all of that its a great experience ridding the T.

After seeing downtown Boston we headed over to Fenway park to see a Red Socks game. The stadium is one of the greatest in the country and is full of history. The game was a lot of fun. We got to see the culture of the sport in Boston and what its like when hundreds of people are waiting to get in. All of the food sold there looked and smelled amazing. The weather was perfect and it made watching the game even better. The Soxs ended up losing but I still had a great time and got two see watch to drunk guys fighting.

Day two ended great and the hole day was a lot of fun. I love learning more about the city and I am loving this weather. Cant wait for day 3!
